About Valley Veterinary Hospital | 42 North Avenue, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569
Valley Veterinary Hospital was started in 1953 by Harlan Howlett, D.V.M., a Cornell Veterinary School graduate. Mike Murphy, D.V.M., also from Cornell bought the practice in 1988. Dr. Murphy had been practicing small and large animal medicine in the area for 9 years prior to purchasing.
After purchasing Valley Vet from Dr. Howlett, additional staff was added and hours expanded. Kathryn Eddy, V.M.D. joined Valley Vet in 1989, after working in Connecticut for 10 years. Dr. Eddy is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Valley Veterinary Hospital soon became a pillar in the community for small and large animal care.
In the late 1990’s Jill Nogrady, D.V.M. joined the practice. Soon an expansion was necessary. The waiting room was expanded. Exam rooms, surgery, and x-ray suites were added. The kennels were expanded to accommodate the pre and post-operative patients as well as sick patients and an isolation room. All the while the President and Owner, Michael Murphy, D.V.M. continued seeing patients, hiring employees, and partnering with various organizations to offer low-cost spay and neuter programs. Dr. Murphy also was a mentor and provider of internships to many students. As of now at least 10 of these past interns have become veterinarians.
In 2012, Lauren Roginski, D.V.M. from the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine joined full time. Prior to joining Valley Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Roginski practiced first in Illinois then New Jersey for 10 years. In 2015, Dr. Murphy decided it was time to sell. With retirement on the horizon, Dr. Murphy wanted to leave the practice as is, an independent practice run by a Veterinarian, not a corporation. In 2016, Dr. Murphy sold the practice and building to Dr. Roginski.
